The Rotary Club of Meriwether County proudly sponsored and judged essays for the Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest.
The Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest inspires students to select their own "Law of Life" and explore how it applies to their unique journeys. This deep reflection invites heartfelt expressions of what truly matters to them. The contest celebrates their stories and profound insights while providing significant cash awards to students and teachers.
This year, the Rotary Club of Meriwether Co. partnered with Greenville High School, Manchester High School, and Flint River Academy to conduct the Laws of Life Essay Contest through the nonprofit Georgia Rotary Districts Character Education Program, Inc. (GRDCEP).
Rotarians dedicate their time to reading and judging essays, serving on the contest's Board of Directors, and sharing their professional expertise to nurture students' character development and ethical literacy. "The essay contest is an opportunity for Rotary clubs to share their 'Service Above Self' motto with local students and schools," said Carol Gray Walker, Executive Director for Georgia Laws of Life.
Since its inception in 1999, the Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest has touched the lives of over 750,000 students. Inspired by the power of simple quotes known as the Laws of Life, Sir John Templeton launched this writing competition in the 1970s, encouraging young people to embrace the wisdom of these sayings. He believed that following them empowered individuals to live their best lives. Through their essays, students passionately reflect on values that resonate deeply with them—generosity, courage, perseverance, honesty, integrity, and compassion.
The Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest thrives thanks to the unwavering support of local Rotary Clubs, individual donors, corporations, and a grant from the John Templeton Foundation.
