Cotton Fair Fundraising Event

The Cotton Fair: A Cherished Community Tradition

The Cotton Fair, a beloved tradition in our community, serves as the Rotary Club of Meriwether County’s primary fundraiser, held twice each year on the first weekends of May and October.
On October 4, 2025, the Rotary Club was honored to welcome Rotary District 6900 Governor Steve Ivory to the fair. Governor Ivory, alongside dedicated Rotarians and friends, worked tirelessly at the hot dog stand, ensuring each one was served with all the classic fixings that make them so delicious. He also showcased his sweet side as a true candy apple aficionado, helping craft the perfect autumn treat.
Throughout the weekend, Rotary members prepared over 600 hot dogs, topped with slaw, chili, and cheese, for distribution to the community. Other offerings included candy apples, sweet and unsweetened Milo tea, and Country Time lemonade. For early visitors, the Club provided a cozy breakfast selection featuring muffins, hot chocolate, and Dunkin’ or Folgers coffee.

But the Cotton Fair is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of community, history, and togetherness. A long-standing tradition in Gay, Georgia, dating back to 1972, the Fair honors our rich agricultural heritage and the enduring spirit that defines our town. It’s not just an event—it’s part of who we are, a reflection of our shared past and our continued pride in this community.

Each year, the Fair captivates visitors with its wide variety of exhibits—around 300 vendors showcase their creations in and around the historic farm buildings, which have stood since 1891. From stunning art to delectable gourmet foods, visitors experience the craftsmanship and creativity of artisans from across the Eastern United States. Every Cotton Fair offers something new, ensuring that no two visits are ever the same.

This event truly embodies the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” Members of the Manchester Middle School Interact Club and the Muscogee Rotary Club joined forces with Meriwether County Rotarians over the weekend, learning, serving, and creating lasting memories. Their enthusiasm and teamwork made the fair even more special, and they’re already looking forward to helping again next year.
