The Day the World Stopped Turning: Honoring Manchester's First Responders
"Where were you the day the world stopped turning?"
That's the question asked at the start of a recent post about a powerful stair climb event held in Manchester, Georgia. The event honored the fallen firefighters, police, and paramedics who lost their lives on that terrible day in September 2001.
It's a question that brings to mind a sense of unity and shared memory, and it's this spirit that was on display as the community came together to remember and pay tribute.
We'd like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in this moving event, including Rotarian Fire Chief Ben Williams, members of the Manchester GA Fire Dept, Manchester Police Department, Meriwether County Fire Rescue, SROs, and students from Manchester High School. A special shout-out to Star Mercury Vindicator reporter Mary Byers for covering the event.
The effort and dedication of our first responders are truly admirable. Their commitment to serving and protecting our communities is a true example of what it means to be a hero.
Thank you to Rotarians Melissa Trujillo (Club President) and Jodi Sharpe for providing refreshments and encouragement.
We admire and appreciate our first responders. They are the true example of courage and selflessness.
