On September 16th, Georgia Laws of Life hosted a second Teacher & Rotarian Workshop Luncheon at Green Island Country Club in Columbus. It was another opportunity to celebrate the teachers and students who are the foundation of the contest.
Bainbridge High School students Sanaá Hines and Holten Dollar read their touching essays. BHS School Contest Chair Dr. Heidi Chambers shared why the Laws of Life are integral to their ELA curriculum. "I have read at least 1600 essays over my many years at BHS...1600 students with 1600 different stories to share. Their voices resonate with me daily, and I believe I have learned as much from them as they from me."
Greenville High School Contest Chair Pat Childs shared how they take a community-wide approach to honor their Laws of Life student winners. A bulletin board, complete with student photos, announces winners at the school. A Laws of Life Luncheon celebration was hosted by the Meriwether County Board of Education. School winners received their Laws of Life medallions from Superintendent Dr. Robert Griffin and Rotarian Kay Williamson. All winners, honorable mentions, and Rotarians received Laws of Life t-shirts and masks. Laws of Life mugs filled with goodies were presented to Dr. Griffin and all Rotarians of Meriwether County. The BOE also invited students to a meeting where the students and Mrs. Childs were recognized with certificates of achievement. Mrs. Childs celebrates outstanding student writers like the GHS sports teams and acknowledges their standout athletes.
