Building Home Libraries for Children in Meriwether

The Meriwether County Rotary Club has successfully raised funds to support Ferst Readers, a renowned organization that provides high-quality books and essential literacy resources to children and their families. These resources are designed for home use during the early stages of a child's development, allowing parents and caregivers to foster a child's love for reading actively. Empowering every community member to participate in this initiative helps ensure that every child has a strong foundation for a bright future.

Extensive research highlights that exposure to rich language and affectionate interactions is the most effective way to stimulate a baby's brain development. It has been shown that having a wide variety of books at home and being read to from birth is vital for a child's cognitive and emotional growth.

Children enrolled in the Ferst Readers literacy program receive specially selected, high-quality, age-appropriate books and additional educational resources mailed directly to their homes each month, starting at birth and continuing until their fifth birthday. This ongoing access to printed materials helps create a language-rich environment crucial for developing vocabulary and comprehension skills. As a result, children are better equipped to embark on a lifelong journey of learning and success, giving them the tools they need to thrive in school and beyond.
