On behalf of Meriwether County Family Connections, Angie Shirah received a $500 donation from the Meriwether County Rotary Club to support the Ferst Readers program for the children in Meriwether County.
At the heart of the Ferst Readers' mission is the belief that communities play a crucial role in shaping the future. By providing quality books and literacy resources for children and their families to use at home during the earliest stages of development, they empower every community member to contribute to a child's best start in life. After all, nothing helps a baby's brain develop more than exposure to rich language and loving interactions, and books at home and being read to from birth are essential to this early development.
Ferst Readers envisions creating better learners, brighter futures, and stronger communities by ensuring that every child under five has access to quality books in their homes.
Enrolled children in the Ferst Readers literacy program receive a bookstore-quality, age-appropriate book and additional resources mailed to their homes every month until their fifth birthday. This consistent access to printed materials fosters a language-rich environment in their home and sets them toward a lifetime of learning and success.
