Cotton Fair Fundraising Event

The Cotton Fair, a cherished event in our community, is the Rotary Club of Meriwether County's primary fundraiser, occurring twice a year on the first weekends of May and October. On October 5, 2024, we were honored to have Rotary District 6900 Governor Gordon Owens join us at the fair. Governor Owens, along with the dedicated Meriwether Co Rotarians, worked tirelessly to prepare the hotdogs, ensuring each one was dressed with all the fixings that make them so delicious. He was also an aficionado when it came to making candy apples.  

During the fair, the dedicated members of the Rotary Club prepared nearly 1,000-foot-long hot dogs with slaw, chili, and cheese. Other items for sale included cherry candy apples, sweet and unsweet Milo tea, and Country Time lemonade. The club also offered a delightful breakfast spread of Otis Spunkmeyer muffins and Dunkin or Folders coffee.

The Cotton Fair is not just an event, it's a celebration of our community's history and enduring spirit. A long-standing tradition in Gay, Georgia, dating back to 1972, it represents our rich heritage. This history is something we deeply respect and appreciate, and it's what makes the Cotton Fair more than just an event. It's a part of our identity, a celebration of our past and present.

Year after year, the Fair captivates visitors with its diverse range of exhibits. Approximately 300 exhibits have come to sell their products in and around the historic farm buildings since 1891, offering something for everyone, from stunning art to delectable gourmet foods, all crafted by artisans across the Eastern United States. This rich variety ensures that every visit to the Cotton Fair is a new and exciting experience, promising something unique for everyone.

The Cotton Fair is not just a fundraiser, it's a heartwarming community effort. The Rotary Club has extended invitations to Interact students and other clubs, such as the Muscogee Rotary Club and the LaGrange Interact Club, to join them. These groups had a fantastic time learning and contributing to the community, and they're eagerly looking forward to participating again this year.
